"I wrote this song while on tour in 2019, exhausted by the urge to jump out of the car and run out into every expansive field we passed along the highway. The tour was a constant grind, and there was an amazing night where we (Dave and I) sat outside and watched the Super Blood Wolf Moon eclipse. I felt in that moment like I was “in line” with where I was supposed to be, but it wasn’t exactly a celebratory moment. It was somewhat somber, like a recognition that every path—even the right one—has its moments of exhaustion, difficulty, frustration, loneliness, longing, etc. Life feels like a race against time sometimes, and touring has a way of exacerbating that feeling."

About the song, songwriter Kelcy Wilburn says: Some New Orleans musicians took a page from the Bushwick Book Club and invited songwriters to read Margaret Atwood's The Heart Goes Last, write a song inspired by it, and perform the songs at a show together. The dystopian, near-future tale about an imprisoned society was a peculiar read that got me thinking about how we go to great lengths to avoid acknowledging certain aspects of ourselves and to avoid really knowing ourselves. We attempt to distract ourselves from our insecurities and weaknesses with any number of "escapes," but there really is no escape. The grass isn’t greener on the other side—you just stopped watering your lawn.
